The Three-Country Cairn

The Three-Country Cairn is a border marker in Lake Koltajärvi where the international borders of Sweden, Norway and Finland meet. It is also the most northerly point in Sweden and the westernmost point in mainland Finland. The Cairn is the most northerly point where the borders of three countries meet. The border marker is a cone made of concrete. The heart stone on top of it is engraved with the key dates of 1897 (the exact meeting point of the borders was defined), 1901 (the marker was approved) and 1926 (the marker was replaced). You can go freely around the border marker, as long as you don't have goods liable to customs duties with you: all three borders are internal borders of the Schengen area. Citizens of the Nordic countries do not even need a passport.
