Heinola’s Bird Sanctuary

Wild and exotic birds from near and far! The Bird Sanctuary was established in 1963. It was originally designed for looking after some parrots that were donated to the City of Heinola. Now, the sanctuary cares for injured native birds and lets them back out into the wild when they have recuperated. It is possible to witness incredible moments when birds are set free, see exotic bird species, as well as observe native birds in their own habitat. The wingspan of the golden eagle, the hunting skills of various owls and the colours of the smaller birds are just some examples of the spectrum on display in the sanctuary.
