Koljonvirta

Iisalmi

Where battles and history come alive. Koljonvirta is a gathering place for history enthusiasts, visitors to the fair and camping veterans alike. During the day, lose yourself in The Tales of Ensign Stål, an epic poem originally written in Swedish by the Finnish-Swedish author Johan Ludvig Runeberg, the national poet of Finland and visit the museum dedicated to author and journalist Juhani Aho. Afternoons are perfect for catching a fish or two by the banks of the Koljonvirta River and paddling in the high summer sun, and the rest of the day can then be spent exploring the history trail and making traditional Finnish pancakes called 'muurinpohjalettu' (MU-rin-poh-yah-let-tu). As the day draws to a close, relax in the warmth of a campfire and enjoy the rural atmosphere of Koljonvirta as the evening smoothly transitions to night without the sun ever setting.
