Häme härkätie

Along the Finnish silk road. Häme härkätie (“the Häme ox road”) was the main trade route in Finland in its day. It is known to have existed since at least the 9th century, and it connected the country’s two most important castles in Turku and Häme. Carts pulled by heavy oxen used to travel on the road, along with Vikings’ loot and groups of pilgrims. Holiday-makers can get into the medieval spirit and travel the road from start to end, visiting the numerous museums, hiking areas and traditional restaurants along the way. The inns and public houses offer plenty of resting places for tired travellers while they can enjoy the views over golden fields and vast hills.
