Reindeer

Lapland

Your trip to Lapland may come to a complete halt for a moment when a herd of reindeer walks over the road. Reindeer are slow thinkers and will not make way very quickly. But what's the hurry when you're a tourist? Now is the time for a little break and to admire the animals. These interesting semi-domesticated animals in Forest Lapland live in herds of 5 to 500 reindeer or sometimes even more. They wander for several kilometres a day, searching for grazing places and water. Both male and female reindeer have antlers that change every year. Reindeer antlers are the quickest growing bones in the world. In 24 hours, they may grow by 2 centimetres in length and half a kilogram in weight.
