Raatteen Portti

Suomussalmi

One of the most important battles of the Winter War between the Soviet and Finnish forces was fought on the Raate Road. The Finnish army won a significant victory here and managed to stop the Soviet Union from crossing the border. The Winter War Museum depicts events through images, videos and wartime objects. It also arranges exhibitions of various war events that took place across Finland. The highlight of the visit is the work made of stones outside the museum building: the stones symbolize the 20,000 Finnish soldiers that fell in battle.
